Filming Locations

Historic Headland

The Headland has a deep and varied history, from it’s Anglo-Saxon heritage, connections to the De Brus family and its medieval port and defences. It’s history is reflected throughout its architecture including medieval religious and defensive structures, Georgian town houses, and Victorian terraces, chapels and civic buildings.

Prominent structures include the impressive St Hilda’s Church, the historically significant Heugh Battery, the Grade 1 Listed Town Wall and Sandwell Gate, and the differing entertainment spaces of The Borough Hall and Elephant Rock.

With it’s impressive coastline and rich history, the Headland makes for an interesting filming backdrop. Productions filmed here include ITV drama series ‘Vera’ and ‘The Thief, His Wife & The Canoe.’

Hartlepool Waterfront

Steeped in maritime history, Hartlepool’s vibrant waterfront offers a picturesque backdrop for filming.

It’s landmark features include the magnificent HMS Trincomalee, housed at the nationally significant Museum of the Royal Navy, as well as an award-winning marina filled with yachts and working boats. A concentration of eating and drinking venues surrounds the stunning marina.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy acts as an excellent base location for filming projects and has previously been utilised by ITV drama series Victoria and BBC’s Gentlemen Jack. ITV’s Vera and BBC’s Scarlett’s Driving School have both featured the backdrop of Hartlepool Marina.
