Tuesday 29 July

10am – 5pm

Explore HMS Trincomalee, the last remaining Royal Navy ship built in India, and experience South Asian culture brought to life across the historic dockside – from dance classes and family games to face painting and delicious Indian cuisine.

History lovers can enjoy Curators Talks on the ship’s Indian heritage, and families can get hands-on with fun activities like paper boat making or games in Skittle Alley.

Don’t forget to stop by and try on colourful saris to get fully immersed in the vibrant celebration!

Here’s a sneak peek at some special moments happening throughout the day:

Step inside the Painted Bus!
DESIblitz and Aidem Digital have transformed a retired National Express bus into a sustainable arts hub! Inside, a Middlesbrough-based storyteller Rumana Yasmin (founder of Bok Bok Books) will be weaving captivating stories, inspired by museum collections and objects, while staff from the Museum of Hartlepool deliver a collections handling activity alongside.

Tea lovers, don’t miss this!
Head to the Captain’s Cabin of HMS Trincomalee where Miki Rodgers will guide you through a tea blending experience, connecting flavours to countries across the globe. Create your own custom blend and take home your own teabag!

Dance from the heart with Nrithya Kshetra
Catch a beautiful Bharatanatyam performance by Nrithya Kshetra, a North East-based classical dance community with roots stretching back to India over 50 years ago. Founded by Guru Mrs. Pani, this vibrant group continues to celebrate and share the sacred art of Bharatanatyam right here in Hartlepool!

It’s going to be a full day of history, heritage, creativity and culture.
