Hartlepool is blessed with tremendous natural assets free for all to explore.
Hartlepool Headland located at the northern end of town is an historical gem with so much of its physical landscape reflecting the town’s rich history. Well worth a visit is the surviving section of the town wall, remnant of the town’s maritime history and the Headland War Memorial where you will find the large bronze winged statue ‘Winged Victory’. Spion Kop Cemetry is a particular rarity – the site features plenty of unusual plants and is a great photography spot.
A prominent feature of the Headland is the beautiful 12th century St Hilda’s Church; visitors are welcome to take free tours of the historic church, which still features many of its original Norman features. Hart Saxon Church in Hart Village just on the outskirts of Hartlepool is yet another architecturally stunning spiritual venue offering visitors an inside grand tour.
The seaside resort of Seaton Carew is another location filled with free fun. There’s plenty to explore as you venture along the resort’s stunning golden beach and beyond towards rich environment of Seaton Common and Sand Dunes. For a quieter, off the beaten track experience, Crimdon Dene Beach and its surrounding Hart Warren Dunes is a great exploration spot. A rather hidden gem of Hartlepool, be sure to look out for the magnificent structure that is Steetly Pier – it’s became a rather bit hit with local photographers!
